DUUUUUDDDEE

But actually, it’s too small for me, or else I’d already have a WRX hatch.

I hope this one has a funky connector to the turbo that allows it to make a few extra hp.

Right?! What do you think the price point will be?

Kinja'd!!!1

Fun fact - the number of gears in the transmission is the same as the amount of people that will buy one of these.

Only took them + 15 years to out do the  ‘ 05-06 XRS... Ha

I wonder if the people that wanted a WRX hatch post 2014 are still out there?

I’m okay with that (as long as I get mine).

Plenty of people buy GTIs/Rs, and how many WRX buyers are out there still waiting for a hatch version ?

I always thought these newer Toyotas look like snarling gophers, but nevertheless this is exciting!

I’m sure (unless they already bought an R or Type R).

My guess is a price range from 37k for a base model - Up to maybe   42k for top trim with aero look kit  “track suspension” and beefier brakes.

Damn. That seems really high.

The XSE starts at $23k. Seems like $7-10 k more would get you all the goodies, but I guess we’ll see. I can’t imagine that they’d price it that much higher than a WRX.

I have a 14 yr old who has eyes for my current ride. Assuming my commute hasn’t gone to hell in ~2 years, this would make a very nice pick up for me and allows a hand-me-down to the kid.

No clue if it’s possible, but I would hope for a ~$30-32 K price point. I don’t think they’ll get many takers beyond that.

Yeah, got a point, im forgetting its not really a competitor for the dead Focus RS. Significantly less power. Well, actually that price  would be about right to compete with the Golf R.

Kinja'd!!! davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com > Maxima Speed
05/27/2020 at 12:17

Kinja'd!!!1

The R is much more premium package. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it priced right in line with the WRX; it will likely be its main competition.

Kinja'd!!!1

Yep - I’ve got a 13 yr old (and an 11 yr old after). =)

I don’t think they can charge much more than that with the WRX priced the way it is.

Oh dang, a new challenger appears. If accurate, this definitely goes into contention to replace the WRX,  along with the next gen of it and the STI. If it’s priced between the Subarus I’d likely go for the Toyota.

Yah, I would hope they’re smart to keep this below WRX and GTI.  Don’t go head to head!

I’m guessing it will be right in line with both of them as pricing goes.

The hatch definitely puts this up a notch for me in relation to the WRX.

Hope this and the next WRX are both fantastic.

The Corolla’s been getting some great reviews (the Savage Goose loved it).

Coming from someone who wanted a 3 door Mazda 2, a Kodo Mazda 2 (2015+), or would even settle for a U.S. spec Yaris Hatch with a manual.... I know all too well.

At least my 13 year wait for the AZ-1 was fruitful.

Oh yeah, if the Subarus are sedan only again it’s not even a competition. Putting the mtb in the trunk of mine is a pain in the ass I will not put up with again. If I had roof rack mounts I’d probably keep the WRX for a bit longer but I’m over it more and more now that I can get on the trails again.

If the rumour is  accurate all it really needs is a set of the requisite bolstered seats for me to be all over it. A bit of a wide body treatment and I’ll throw my wallet at them to do with as they please.

There’s an expectation that this will be available in most markets so we should see that in Oz alongside the already announced GR Yaris...pricing will be interesting as the Yaris is moo ted to be north of AU$45,000...
